Technology, projects and drilling (TPD) is Equinor’s business area responsible for research and technology, project development and execution, well delivery and procurement. Having the corporate responsibility for technology implementation and project development puts us in the middle of making Equinor a competitive company facing the low carbon society.

TPD is organised in the following business clusters- Project Development (PRD), Drilling and Well, Procurement and Supplier Relations, Research and Technology.

Project Development (PRD) is responsible for all our major project developments nationally and internationally, both greenfield and brownfield.

Job Description

Discipline lead/ lead engineer in projects for all phases within Oil & Gas and New Energy projects on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and international.
The work will consist of internal study work and project development and execution in close cooperation with our contractors and suppliers.
The two vacancies are divided into the following areas of competence-

Position 1- “Design to Digital”/ Automation Lead Engineer

  • Contribute to the digital future of Equinor by influencing early phase projects towards remotely operated, unmanned and autonomous facilities
  • Identify possibilities and provide solutions towards the overall system design to enable unmanned and autonomous operation and maintenance
  • Consider how artificial intelligence and machine learning can increase level of autonomy and incorporate advanced process control and optimisation in the system design. Evaluate instrumentation needs and system robustness for data capturing towards both edge and cloud, while keeping the maintenance level at a minimum
  • Be a clear and proactive voice towards the possibilities enabled by automation and digitalisation. Act as a light house towards the rest of the organisation to enhance the digital mindset and competence
  • Responsibilities as automation lead towards both internal studies and project development, with traditional automation scope, in close collaboration with contractors and suppliers
  • Collaborate closely with the professional ladder, Research & Technology, and other key stakeholders in developing the digital future of Equinor

Position 2- Functional Safety Engineer/ Specialist

  • Provide Specialist advices and services within management of Functional Safety, SIS and SIL/LOPA
  • Initiate efficiency improvements and support development of best practice within management of SIS for project development and operations
  • Participate in standardization work related to SIS and update of Company’s internal governing documentation
  • Contribute to achieve a more efficient SIS performance monitoring in operation through digitalization and data collection/analysis campaigns

Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD within cybernetics / control engineering and with strong academic results
  • 7 – 10 years of relevant experience preferred
  • International experience from work or study

Special competence for “Design to Digital”/ Automation Lead Engineer position-

  • Preferred experience within autonomous system development, for instance from the automotive-, aviation or oil & gas industry (self-driving cars, autonomous planes/drones etc.)
  • Special knowledge or experience within some or all of the following topics- autonomous systems with fail-safe functionality and safety instrumented systems, artificial intelligence, machine learning, advanced process control and optimisation, network architecture, cyber security, connectivity and industrial internet of things, condition based and predictive maintenance, cloud computing and integration to the edge, remotely controlled or autonomous robots and drones, unmanned maintenance concepts, module based and redundant systems with plug-and-play capabilities

Special competence for Functional Safety Engineer/ Specialist position-

  • Proven track record within Functional Safety, management of Safety Instrumented Systems, SIL, LOPA, Reliability analysis
